Mentors are a lifeline for our students. 

Every fall, our scholarship recipients enter community college, and most are the first in their families to attend. They face many different challenges as pioneers for their families into the world of higher education. Our mentors play a critical role in helping our students face and overcome these challenges.

We are looking for people who:

Mentors Commit to:

  • Believe in the power of students and education
  • Have demonstrated experience and specific interest in supporting and mentoring students (18+)
  • Are creative, positive, and solutions-oriented
  • Can use basic email and word processing platforms
  • Have a post-secondary credential
  • Supporting a student from June 2020-June 2021 with weekly or bi-weekly meetings (mentors do not need to be local but must be proficient with technology)
  • Attending once a month mentor huddle up with other mentors and program staff
  • Commit to an average of no more than 5 hours a month

Our results

After participating in our mentorship program 80% of students reported that they: 
  • could better manage a budget 
  • could manage stress better 
  • had increased academic success in college

our model

Our research-based model targets Key Community College Success Indicators to support students where they need it most. Our model is 100% based on student-identified goals in the following areas:
  • Financial Wellness: budgeting, locating resources, taxes, scholarships and more.
  • Academic Wellness: tutoring, study skills, transfer requirements, advocacy, resource identification. 
  • Personal Wellness: stress management, community building, physical fitness, healthy living.
